The Multiple Function Input Output Processor, commonly abbreviated MFIOP, is the primary I/O controller of the AS/400. It is responsible for controlling the expansion cards in the system and houses the service processor and Control Panel. The MFIOP is suspected to be one of the key components of validating the System Password, therefore a faulty or malfunction MFIOP spells certain death for an AS/400 which supports the System Password feature.
