View source for Super SNA World - OS/400 Configuration

The following is the correct procedure to put your OS/400 machine onto Super SNA World. These steps have been tested from OS/400 V3R1 to IBM i 7.1. You will need physical access to your AS/400 and an available communications port.

First, log into your AS/400 as a *SECOFR account, either as QSECOFR or your own personal *SECOFR account. Execute:
<pre>CALL QCMD</pre>
to enter the extended command line.

If your system is still at its default hostname, usually the serial number of your machine, you must change it now. It does not matter what, just as long as it is a unique and easy to remember name. Enter the following command:
<pre>CHGNETA SYSNAME(<NewHostname>) LCLCPNAME(<NewHostname) LCLLOCNAME(<NewHostname>) LCLNETID(APPN) NODETYPE(*NETNODE) ALWANYNET(*YES) ALWVRTAPPN(*YES) VRTAUTODEV(32)</pre>
Hostnames may be a maximum of 8 characters long. After executing this command, you will need to re-IPL your machine for the changes to apply.

When your system has returned from its IPL, we now need to look at your available communication lines. Return to QCMD and execute:
<pre>WRKHDWRSC *CMN</pre>
to look at all available communications hardware on your system.

You will look for a Feature Code matching the communications line you would like to use.

Here is an example screen showing a communications adapter available with no cables plugged in. Plug in your communications cable into the physical port you will be using and press F5 to refresh the page. Now, the system should report what cable is attached.

In this example, CMN06 has changed from a generic "Comm Port" to "V.24 Port." This means that the system has correctly identified your communications cable and you are ready to move on to the next step. Make note of the CMN number your cable appears under as we need it for the next step.

Return to QCMD. Execute the following command:

Replace <YourCmnLine> with the CMN number you observed the step previous. Replace <YourInterfaceType> with either *RS232V24 or *V35 depending on your cable. Replace <YourLineSpeed> with the maximum speed you would like your connection to run at. For V.24 connections, enter 19200. For V.35 connections, you may go up to a maximum of 2048000.

Return to QCMD. Execute the following command:

Replace <YourStationAddr> with your assigned station address number. On certain newer machines such as the [[9406-520|iSeries Model 520]], if this command fails it is likely because your communications adapter is not attached to an IOP. Review the System Builder for your system to determine where your communications adapter should be placed in order for it to be IOP driven.

You are now ready to connect your AS/400 to your Cisco router. Once the cables are connected, execute:
<pre>WRKCFGSTS *LIN</pre>

Roll down until you see the SNAWORLD line and SNAWORLD controller. The lines should now be in the following state:

The status may also be RCYPND or VARIED OFF. Cursor to the Option line on the first SNAWORLD entry and type 2 to vary the line off. You are now ready to configure your Cisco router. 

Once you have your router configured, we will do some basic sanity checks to make sure we see you and you see us, and then you will be ready to vary the SNAWORLD line back on, at which point if all goes will should turn to:
